When making the choice between a gaming PC and a gaming laptop, there are a lot of variables and preferences that will make up your final decision. Ultimately the two are completely different and the owners of the devices usually have quite contrasting uses.
Let's look at some of the factors which may determine your decision!
The capability of a laptop compared to a gaming PC is slightly disadvantaged due to the size difference. If you are looking to pay around the same price for a laptop as you'd be willing to pay for a desktop, chances are that the gaming laptop will have slightly lower performance and possibly struggle to maintain optimal temperatures.
Due to a desktop PCs size, it has a larger area for airflow or to have a water-cooling system installed, therefore allowing the desktop PC a higher performance capability per £ spent on average.
When it comes to convenience, it's very hard for a desktop to even be involved in the conversation. Since they're so large there isn't a lot of chance to take them anywhere with you. If you're looking to double up your computer as a work device, this is something you should definitely consider!
A laptop's number one benefit is the fact you can take it where you're heading. Most gaming laptops don't weigh more than 5KG, although not the lightest, it is much more convenient than a desktop, so you should be able to carry it in a small bag and use it when you're travelling or take it with you to work or game in remote locations. Work and game from home, or work and game from anywhere!
When it comes to gaming laptops, in 2022 we see there are super fancy, bright, LED laptops with chroma keyboards and amazing designs. Although, when the time arises to upgrade or modify the appearance of your device, PCs take the advantage.
When upgrading your PC, you are presented with a great number of options for customisation due to the available space within the case and layout of the components. Some of the upgrades a desktop PC user would be able to do might include LED RGB cases with extra cooling and glass windows installed, amazing colourful LED RGB graphics cards, you could even add extra internal storage space & much more!
Laptops are usually quite limited when it comes to additional parts being installed or adding extra storage without it being an external hard drive. This is not the case for all laptops, but for the most part the customisation is limited and upgrading certain components would be a very difficult or on some occasions an impossible task.
The true answer is, neither of the options fully trumps the other. It all depends on your personal preference and needs.
Our personal recommendation is that if you're planning on working in different locations or you want to go and having gaming sessions with your friends then you should maybe consider going for a laptop.
If you're looking to have something at home for gaming, but you don't need to move around with your device much, then it would be advantageous to go for a desktop PC, the power and performance advantages are the benefit, and the stationary nature of a desktop is your disadvantage. So, choose wisely and best of luck!
